Well, so much for the progress I was making on the back logged convention photos.  Today when I came from work, my system hard drive started knocking. Mechanical failure, lovely. If it were just a pooched windows install, or other software issue, not a problem. I’ve been working with computers long enough that I’m decent enough at recovering the data most of the time anyway. However, this time it’s hardware that’s failed. This is beyond me, I don’t have the tools to fix something like that. I call up Ontrack (a data recovery specialist we use at work), they give me a ball park figure of $500 to $2500 to get it back - MAYBE. Since this is a mechanical failure, it’s going to be on the higher end of that quote.

So, the question is. do I say forget it about it, move on (at least the photos on it were backed up elsewhere) or try and scrape up the $$$ for it?

Anyway, right now I’m simply working off a ubuntu live cd. I’m not going to rebuild anything for a while. I’m too ?@!#@ sick of computers currently.

I’ve uploaded Lou’s Mokucon 2008 Friday photos so far.  Saturday’s pictures will go online once I’ve received them to process/upload.

Ah… days off.. besides doing some resting, I re-uploaded several older picture galleries.   They are  going online somewhat random, I’m saving time by re-importing the older convention photos from the previous gallery setup.  Only drawback with this method is I don’t know what the directory is until I go to import.

Lou went to MangaNext this past weekend. Sounds like he had a good time. Perhaps one year I’ll be able to make it too. In the mean time tho I’m in the process of putting his photos online now.

Also, please keep in mind Lou fit in what he could between his own work schedule, so coverage is not quite what it’d normally would be.

Update: Normal convention coverage photos are now online.

So far so good with the new site.  It hasn’t blown up yet.  Only major goof was when I deleted all of the first batch of photos later after posting them. D’oh. Live and learn.

As it stands now, I believe all the normal coverage and Lou’s private shoots are online. I have two private shoots to process and post. I hope to have them online by Sunday evening - maybe sooner.

Oh, I’ve stumbled across past LJ entries or forum posts on various sites saying the previous site was hard to navigate.  Please let me know if you feel the same with this one. If I don’t know, I can’t fix it.
